Whats the problem?

In response to the growing need for accessible and engaging solutions to address sustainability challenges. Recognizing the urgency of environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, and resource depletion, Gooddeed aims to empower individuals to take meaningful action in their everyday lives.

The problem at hand is the disconnect between the general public's awareness of environmental issues and their ability to effectively implement sustainable practices. Many people want to make a positive impact, but they often lack the knowledge, motivation, or a structured approach to do so. Gooddeed bridges this gap by providing users with a gamified platform that not only educates and inspires, but also fosters a sense of community through friendly competition with peers.

User Research

Interview Insights

In the interviews, participants expressed a deep-seated motivation to engage in sustainable living practices. Participants articulated a genuine concern for safeguarding the environment for future generations, citing worries about the escalating threats posed by climate change and pollution.
Amidst their aspirations for a greener lifestyle, interviewees candidly shared the challenges they face. One recurring issue was the difficulty in sourcing affordable eco-friendly products, particularly in regions with limited access to sustainable options. These candid conversations underscore the significance of localized and user-friendly features in the Gooddeeds app's development, reinforcing the need for tools like a product locator for eco-friendly stores and a detailed recycling guide with local disposal information.

Survey Results

GoodDeeds' ideation came from the ongoing global warming and pollution crises around the world tackling the digital generation.

The survey revealed a high level of interest in sustainable living practices, with 78% of respondents indicating a strong enthusiasm, rating it 4 or 5 on the scale. Recycling emerged as the most widely adopted sustainable activity, with an impressive 89% of respondents reporting their participation. This was closely followed by the use of reusable products (72%) and energy conservation efforts at home (58%). Additionally, 42% of respondents disclosed previous experience with sustainability-related apps, primarily utilizing them for recycling information and eco-friendly product recommendations.

User Persona

Based on the interviews and user research, I created the following persona. The persona highlights the goals and pain points when looking to improve your day-to-day sustainable lifestyle. Emily is tech-savvy and regularly uses her smartphone to stay connected with social media, read eco-conscious blogs, and download sustainable living apps.

How Gooddeed Can Help:
The app's gamification elements provide motivation and a sense of accomplishment for achieving sustainable goals, keeping Emily engaged and on track with her eco-friendly practices. The social integration feature allows Emily to connect with her friends and peers, creating a supportive community of individuals who share her passion for sustainability.

Sitemap

The sitemap outlines the navigational structure, ensuring a seamless user experience. It delineates key screens including Log In, Sign Up, Home, Leadership Board, and the "Reduce Carbon Footprint" category with its respective tasks. The sitemap is a powerful tool for identifying any missing elements or areas that require further development. Furthermore, it promotes efficient communication among stakeholders, designers, and developers, ensuring everyone has a shared understanding of the app's structure and functionality.

Sketching Low fidelity wireframe

With the use of the sitemap, I created low fidelity sketches which were used to cross-check user needs by performing Guerrilla Testing. This approach of usability testing helped prioritize design changes while focusing on critical improvement ensuring that the final prototypes address users' needs effectively.

High Fidelity Prototyping

High-fidelity mockups were used to build a clickable prototype using Figma in order to test out key features. These prototypes serve as a critical step in the development process and testing, ensuring that the app aligns with the vision and meets the needs of users.

Discover new tasks

Scroll through discover new weekly tasks to accomplish your goals and maintain a high position on the leadership board while partcipating with your friends.

Creates your progress report

The 'Progress Overview' was designed to meet user specifications and to be intuitive to use. Users can track their completed tasks and progress in order to keep up their goals.

Final Thoughts

I believe that the app features were well thought out to find a solution for interviewee and survey results pain points, however, features such as a community feature could be added to promote more engagement amongst the users. With further research, the community feature could help users introduce new tasks, discover more, understand and learn more knowledge on how to advance their sustainable living.
